- Academic Requirements:
Candidates must be among the highest achievers in their undergraduate cohort and should be in receipt of, or on track to receive, a first-class UK degree or its equivalent.
Candidates with a standalone Master's qualification must have achieved a distinction or provide evidence of high performance that will lead to a distinction. They must also hold a first-class UK undergraduate degree or its equivalent. Candidates with multiple standalone Master's qualifications must have achieved a distinction in the most relevant one to their Ph.D. study.
Candidates with degrees from overseas institutions are strongly advised to assess if their scores/grades meet the relevant eligibility criteria.
Prior to applying, candidates must establish contact with a supervisor from an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to oversee their research project. Please note that each supervisor can only supervise one scholar at a time. Refer to the President's Ph.D. Scholarships Supervisors page for further details. Currently, registered Imperial Ph.D. students are not eligible for the President's Ph.D. Scholarship. This scheme is exclusively open to new Ph.D. applications.
Selection Process
The selection process for the President's Imperial College Fully-funded Ph.D. Scholarships consist of two stages:
Candidates who meet or are predicted to meet the eligibility requirements will be reviewed by the relevant department. The departments will shortlist the most outstanding candidates to present to the Imperial College Selection Panel for further consideration.
The final decision will be made by the Imperial College Selection Panel, comprising the Vice-Provost (Research) and the Faculty Vice-Deans for Research. The panel will consider shortlisted candidates from all faculties and award scholarships to those who demonstrate the greatest potential.
Successful candidates will receive written confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a Ph.D. place will be conditional upon a final interview with the department and the candidate meeting the predicted qualifications.
Applicants not selected for the scholarship will automatically be considered for the Ph.D. program
Application Procedure

Submit your application for admission to study at Imperial through the online admissions system. Your department will then nominate you for the scholarship based on your academic merit and potential.
When prompted for a personal statement, make sure it consists of approximately 1000 words (maximum 2 pages) and highlights your academic and research achievements to date, along with a brief explanation of your planned research project. The selection panel will not consider statements exceeding the 2-page limit. You may submit updated versions of this statement if required after submitting your application.
